Evaluation of the effectiveness of emotion-focused couple therapy on marital adjustment of couples

Background and Aim: In the period of family life, the new stage of acquaintance of couples is the stage of adjustment, coordination and adaptation to each other and it can be one of the stages in which couples experience the least amount of satisfaction and compatibility with each other. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of emotion-oriented couple therapy on marital adjustment of couples.
Methods: The research design was quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest. For this purpose, 30 couples (60 people) in Tehran were selected by purposive sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. First, the couple answered the marital adjustment questionnaire, then the experimental group underwent EFT-focused couple therapy therapy training for 10 sessions. SPPS-24 software and analysis of covariance were used to analyze the data.
Results: The results of comparing pre-test and post-test of the two groups showed that emotion-oriented couple therapy training has a significant effect on increasing marital adjustment.
Conclusion: As a result of emotion-oriented couple therapy has had an effect on increasing marital adjustment of couples and the results of this study can be used to reduce marital problems.
