Importance of School Level Library in Assam

Abstract

Library occupies a very important place in educational settings.  Libraries provide a independent space for the educational personnel to access the educational resources at any time. In the state of Assam, Libraries are mostly used in higher education purpose. Most of libraries are found in colleges or Universities. But it is necessary to form the habit of reading from early age, i.e., school age. The aim of the study is to investigate the importance of school libraries in Assam. Some secondary data such as some articles on school library has been reviewed for the study. The function, issues and problems of school libraries are reviewed and the importance of school libraries in Assam is analyzed. More libraries with adequate infrastructures, trained librarians, books, are required in school level. School libraries should be equipped with ICTs.
